Painting An Ork Trukk for Warhammer 40K (WIP, as of 6/8/08)

The Ork Boyz are getting a Trukk.

Step-by-Step

  1. Clean and assemble the model. Unlike the Hammerhead, This is a much more complex model, so careful thought needs to be put in before assembly. Assemble the wrong pieces together and you won't be able to get other pieces in.
  2. Prime the subassemblies black
  3. Do a heavy drybrush of Citadel Tin Bitz. For this, I used a 1/2 inch brush.
  4. Using the same brush, drybrush VMC Gunmetal over the surfaces. Use the same color to basecoat the guns.
  5. Basecoat the Ork driver and gunner. I used Citadel Orkhide (Foundation) and Citadel Gnarloc Green (Foundation) for the skin and Citadel Bubonic Brown for the straps and pants.
  6. Basecoat the face of the armor plates with Citadel Mechrite Red (Foundation).
  7. Washed everything with the typical Liquitex Paynes Grey mix and then assembled the full trukk with crew. At this point, it's tabletop playable.

Post Mortem

The partial assembly definately works out for this Trukk. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to even get everything primed had I fully assembled the entire model before painting. I also learned my lesson from the Hammerhead and paid more attention to getting rid of mould lines.
