Painting Miniatures Figures Made Quick And Easy
Painting A Khador Destroyer and Juggernaut for Warmachine
Here are the two warjacks from the starter set, a Destroyer and a Juggernaut. I wanted these two jacks to look like they had been operating in the field for a while, so I used a snow base and weathered the jacks a little bit, to make it look like paint had worn off around the edges.
- Prime the figure with Citadel Colour Blood Red spray.
- Highlight edges with a mix of Citadel Blood Red and yellow or orange
- Basecoast all of the metal VGC Gunmetal Metal
- Wash the entire model with a mix of Liquitex Paynes Grey, Liquitex Glaze Medium, and some water
- Line the edges of the figure using the same Citadel Blood Red and yellow or orange you used before
- Mix some chestnut ink and water and selectively apply this to the backs of the steam boiler and around the joints to look like leaked fluid
- Dilute some orange with water and selectively apply this to the areas you think might end up being a little rusty
- Drybrush the metal parts with VGC Gunmetal and then a little bit of VGC Silver
- Paint the brass areas VGC Brassy Brass
- Wash the brass with a mix of Liquitex Raw Umber and water
- Line the edges of the brass sections with VMC Glorious Gold
- Paint the eyes with the color of your choice, I used a bright blue, but other people use oranges/yellows
- Use a flat brush to paint the Khador symbol white
- I freehanded the symbols, probably with a mix of Bleached Bone and some Flesh Wash, though I can't remember for sure
- To weather the edges, I took a 1/8 flat brush and lightly brushed VGC Gunmetal from the edge towards the inside of the figure. I did this all around the jack, paying particular attention to the corners of the armor plating
- Once your finished with the VGC Gunmetal, add a little bit of VGC Silver and touch up some of the highlights
- Base with a little bit of snow
- Seal
