Painting Imperial Cruisers for Battlefleet Gothic

This is a fairly easy figure to paint. There is a ton of detail that takes washes nicely and it really only uses 4 basic colors. Some of the weapons are missing because I was toying around with the idea of using magnets to make them more interchangable. The weapon sections are painted the same way, just not glued on.

Step-by-Step

  1. Clean and assemble the model.
  2. Prime model and base black
  3. Basecoat the entire hull of the ship Citadel Snot Green.
  4. Basecoat the engine sections and the fronts of the batteries with VMC Gunmetal.
  5. Wash the entire ship with a mix of Liquetex Paynes Grey/Water/VMC Glaze Medium.
  6. Block out the front hull section with White. Depending on the white you use, you may want to undercoat first, with Citadel Astronomicon Grey or a Citadel Space Wolves Grey.
  7. Paint the prow trim using VMC Brassy Brass.
  8. Wash the prow trim with some thinned Liquitex Burnt Umber.
  9. Pick out a couple of lights in yellow
  10. Add some stars to your base by putting some white paint on a large brush, then riffle your thumb across the long edge of the top so that specs of paint get splattered on the base.
  11. Seal.
