Painting Chaos Cruisers for Battlefleet Gothic

This plastic model from the Battlefleet Gothic set is a fairly easy figure to paint and assemble. There is a ton of detail that takes washes nicely and it really only uses a couple of basic colors.

Step-by-Step

  1. Clean and assemble the model.
  2. Prime model Blood Angel Red and the base black
  3. Basecoat the engine sections and the weapons with VMC Gunmetal. You don't really see any weapons on this model as they were painted separately.
  4. Wash the entire ship with a mix of Liquetex Paynes Grey/Water/VMC Glaze Medium.
  5. Use Citadel Blood Angel Red to add some highlights back along the edges
  6. Pick out a couple of lights in yellow
  7. Add some stars to your base by putting some white paint on a large brush, then riffle your thumb across the long edge of the top so that specs of paint get splattered on the base.
  8. Seal.

Post Mortem

Had I done these again, I probably would have picked out some of the hull trim in VMC Brassy Brass and then washed that a little with Liquitex Burnt Umber. It would have been easy to do and would have provided a nice contrast to the red.
